I’ve recently become a fan of the public library too in my new city Ottawa (in Canada) & I absolutely love it. I go there to work on days when I’m not bombarded with meetings. There’s something special about doing creative work around people. Also, I can simply take a walk when I’m getting stiff!
I spent many, many hours researching my first book in that building when it was still the Mid-Manhattan Library, circa 2010–11. I always preferred it to the Schwartzman Building, too — it felt less imposing, more democratic (even though it was pretty grungy at the time). I haven't been back since the renovation but this makes me want to go the next time I'm in NYC. Good luck with the book!
